Entry 3: Computer Mediated Communciation and ESL


Assalamualaikum and a very good day everyone. Today I am going to proceed with my third entry. I hope my writings can help and give a bit of something to all of you. This is may late post because I redo all my posts because I want to make better blog. In my previous class, Madam Azidatun taught me about computer mediated communication (CMC) and ESL.

First of all, I would like to give the definition of what is computer mediated communication. Computer mediated  communication is a type of communication that use two or more electronic devices to communicate. For example, people use mobile phone to communicate with others via communication application such as Whatsapp, Gmail and Wechat. 





Besides, CMC is also used in language learning process. For example, teachers use forum or specific group to give students notes and exercises. By using this forum, students and teacher can communicate instantly. Teacher also can give students soft copy materials or link for students to explore.



Next, I will talk about collaborative learning. Collaborative learning can be define as an educational approach that involves groups of learners working together to solve a problem, complete a task, or create a product. Learning processed happened through active engagement among peers, either face-to-face or online. This approach is much related to CMC because they still use the same application and gain the same thing.

 


However, CMC has its own disadvantage. I will briefly explain the advantages of CMC. Firstly, to adapt CMC in language learning process will take a lot of sacrifices especially on financial term. CMC is used on electronic appliances such as computers, laptops and smartphones. All these appliances will cost money and not all people can afford them. Furthermore, it is a type of informal learning because of the educator is not around with the students. Students may not pay their full attention to the lesson because they can easily browse other things and no one will know about them.

Last but not least, students may get too much information. Not all students have the same ability to grab as much information as they can. Some are fast and some are slow learner. By being the teacher is not there, it is a challenge to monitor the students understanding face to face.


 As conclusion, CMC is suitable for these days because of the rising of techologies. However, there are still disadvantages that should be consider and be improve day by day to give the best quality  of product.

Assalamualaikum everyone. It had been a hectic week for all of us. In recent class, we were taught and ask to do a course ware program. And we need to use a specific application called Smart Builder 4. My first impression towards the application was, it was very hard to use because they are too many buttons and settings. We need to pay attentions when our lecturer was teaching how to use the application. The most important part was to try and error. Even you had followed each steps that you had been ask, you will still face problems sometimes. The final assignment had been given for all of us. It was a group work and I had chose Ayie and Wan as my teammates. We worked great together and managed to submit our course ware entitled Fruit Land on time. The whole experienced making the course ware was very meaningful and eye opening.

Entry 4: How to Design a Courseware (Instructional Courseware Design)

      Assalamualaikum and a very good day everyone. Today I will continue my writing on the topic how to design a course ware. The part that I most interested in this topic is on Addie Model Framework. It is the generic process traditionally used by instructional designers and training developers. This framework will assist course ware designer to design and give their best to make a course work. They are five components of Addie Model. Which are analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. Below is an info graphic on Addie Model to make things clearer. As conclusion, with Addie Model, it can aid most course ware builder. They can create quality and effective course ware that can help teachers and students to succeed in their life.

Entry 2: Evolution of CALL, Search Engines and Online Database

Assalamualaikum and a very good day everyone. Today I am going to talk about Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). On my recent class, my lecturer taught us about the evolution of CALL. First of all, what is CALL? CALL is an approach to language teaching and learning in which the computer is used as an aid to the presentation, reinforcement and assessment of material to be learned, usually including a substantial interactive element. Next I would like to give a light briefing on the history of call. It started back in 1960s' and CALL was used widely on 1970s' by American Universities such as University Of Illinois. CALL was used on a mainframe computers at that time. When the arrival of personal computer (PC), CALL get into its booming era.
